University Entrance Exam Blocks the Way! Turkey Urgently Halts World Cup Public Broadcasts

Turkey's Interior Ministry has banned the installation of large screens in public places to broadcast the World Cup group stage match between Turkey and Paraguay, in order to avoid interfering with the national university entrance exam (YKS) being held this weekend. The match is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 AM. YKS is Turkey's unified entrance exam, taken by hundreds of thousands of students each year. Turkey is returning to the World Cup for the first time since 2002, having lost its opening match 0-2 to Australia. Group opponents also include hosts United States. The match against Australia on June 15 had a public viewing event.
