One to two weeks before the end of the regular season last year, Kerr had decided to end his coaching career with the Warriors without telling anyone. After the playoffs concluded, he held three meetings with Joe Lacob, Rick Lacob, and Mike Dunleavy before ultimately choosing to stay. He has no regrets about the decision and is even pleased that the Warriors are not favored, seeing nothing wrong with it.
