Beaten Then Sued! Barcelona Fan Officially Sues Elche Police

According to RAC1 reporter Roger Saperas, a Barcelona supporter who was beaten by police outside Elche's home stadium has formally filed a lawsuit at the Elche court today, suing the officers involved. The incident occurred on August 23 before Barcelona's away match against Elche. A video showed a fan carrying a Catalan independence flag clashing with Spanish police, who seized the flag and tackled the fan to the ground, with an officer continuing to strike him. On September 9, the Ministry of the Interior initiated disciplinary proceedings. Interior Minister Marlaska stated that the fan's act of carrying the flag was not illegal, and that the police conduct was "without justification."
