Whitmore was released by the Cavaliers for financial reasons, though he still earns a fully guaranteed $5.5 million salary for this season. A 2023 first-round pick (20th overall), Whitmore averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game with a 35.7% three-point shooting percentage during his time with the Rockets. His season with the Wizards saw him averaging 9.2 points per game, but he was ruled out due to a blood clot in his right shoulder. The Nuggets currently carry 14-man standard contracts with a salary total well beyond the luxury tax line, making a 15th-man signing unlikely. Should they sign him, Whitmore would compete with Lonnie Walker IV for a rotation spot, with a two-way contract also being an option.
