In the third round of the League Cup, Aston Villa defeated Coventry 3-1 on the road to advance to the Round of 16. Abraham opened the scoring in the 7th minute, and Torpe levelled for Coventry in the 27th. Villa then clinched victory with consecutive goals from Barkley and Abraham. Abraham recorded a brace in the match, scoring two goals on his own to single-handedly steer his team through.
