Recurring Tibial Injury! Carrick Admits Sesko's Outlook Is Grim as United's Attack Faces Further Setback
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has expressed deep concern over the latest physical condition of attacking prospect Benjamin Sesko. According to his comments, the injury Sesko is currently suffering from is identical to the tibial issue that kept the Slovenian forward sidelined for over two months during the summer. The injury directly caused Sesko to miss three consecutive league matches during the closing stages of last season, and he was absent from all pre-season friendlies.
Reviewing Sesko's appearances this season, he has only been given six opportunities to feature so far, with his only appearance coming as a substitute in the opening away match against Hull. However, in the midweek League Cup clash against Brighton (which ended in a 2-3 defeat), he was handed a starting spot, only to be omitted from the matchday squad for the weekend fixture against Fulham. After the match, Carrick confirmed to the press that the Slovenian international's old tibial problem had flared up again.
"Benjamin's condition remains uncertain at this stage," Carrick stated in the post-match press conference. "He reported pain to me after the game, and we are conducting further examinations. What we can confirm at this point is that he is not fit enough to play in the (Fulham) match. There is nothing more we can reveal at this time — we can only wait for further results."
——According to sources within the club, Cole Palmer has been ruled out of England's final squad——Despite Carrick's keen desire to find a breakthrough from United's injury-ravaged squad, the positive signs visible so far remain limited.
Carrick hopes that the upcoming international break will allow some of the injured players in the squad to recover to their best possible condition. Summer signing Carlos Baleba was included on the bench for the first time in a league match at Craven Cottage, while Matthijs de Ligt, although he travelled to London with the team, failed to meet the physical standard for selection and was not included in the matchday squad.
Winger Amad Diallo has yet to make any appearances this season. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have both received England call-ups, but their ongoing injury troubles may force them to withdraw from the national team squad.
