Team profile: The Peruvian national men's football team was one of the 13 teams that participated in the first World Cup held in Montevideo in 1930. It lost to the Romanian team and the host Uruguay 1:3 and 0:1 in the game. The Peruvian national men's football team did not participate in the World Cup held in Italy, France, Brazil and Switzerland in 1934, 1938, 1950 and 1954 respectively. In 1958, it signed up for the World Cup in Sweden and lost to Brazil in the qualifying round. The 1970 World Cup finals in Mexico. In the first round, the Peruvian team defeated Bulgaria and Morocco 3:2 and 3:0, and lost to the Federal Republic of Germany 1:3. Lost to Brazil 2:4 in the rematch. Did not qualify for the World Cup in 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002. The Peruvian national men's football team has won two America's Cup championships, one in 1939 and the other in 1975. In 1939, the Peruvian team defeated Ecuador and Chile 5:2 and 3:1 respectively, and defeated Uruguay 2:1 in the final. In 1975, Peru defeated Colombia 1:0 in the final and won the championship for the second time. The last time Peru reached the World Cup finals was in 1982. After that, the national team began to decline. At the end of 2008, corruption in the government's sports management department caused the Peruvian national football team to suffer another heavy blow. In the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, Peru was the first team to be eliminated. 2018 will be Peru’s fifth time participating in the World Cup finals.
