FC Augsburg

FC Augsburg is a German professional football club located in Augsburg, Bavaria. It is currently a German Football League team whose main stadium is the Augsburg Arena. The team was founded in 1907 and was originally called "FC Alemannia" (FC Alemannia). It was called "BC Augsburg" (BC Augsburg) from 1921 to 1969. In July 1969, the team encountered financial difficulties and merged with "TSV 1847 Schwaben Augsburg" (TSV 1847 Schwaben Augsburg) and changed its name to the current "FC Augsburg" (FC Augsburg). But Swabia was unhappy with the outcome of the merger and re-established a new team of their own in 1970. Augsburg had been using the Rosenaustadion as its home court before the 2009/10 season. Starting from the 2009/10 season, the team used the newly built Augsburg Arena as the team's home court. Due to the sponsor, the Augsburg Arena is also called the Impuls Arena. With the change of sponsors, starting from the 2011/12 season, the Augsburg Arena is also called the SGL Arena. In the 2010/11 season, the team ranked second in the Bundesliga 2 and was promoted to the Bundesliga. The team’s jersey sponsor for the 2015/16 season is Nike.
