Carrick Hails 'Perfect Night' as Manchester United Return to Champions League with 4-0 Win
According to reports from Manchester, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick described the team's first home match since their return to the Champions League as a "perfect night" as the Red Devils comfortably defeated visiting Sabah FK.
Thursday evening at Old Trafford witnessed Manchester United record a resounding 4-0 victory over the Azerbaijani league champions, marking their first appearance in this elite competition since December 2023. When asked after the match whether scoring four goals without conceding met the standard of perfection, Carrick replied without hesitation: "Of course, that was exactly the target we set before the game."
"I think the whole team performed excellently—both individually and collectively, almost throughout every phase of the match. From the starting lineup to the substitutes who came on, everyone contributed. We kept a clean sheet, scored multiple goals, and displayed passionate, attractive attacking football. All in all, it was certainly a memorable night."
The emphatic win also set a good foundation for Manchester United's upcoming local derby against Manchester City on Sunday. Carrick's side have only collected four points from their first three league rounds, and after being held to a stoppage-time draw by Everton last time out, they desperately need to show greater fighting spirit against their cross-city rivals.
"Looking at the points alone, this is clearly not the start we expected," Carrick admitted. "Everyone knows we wanted to take more points from the league. But judging from our performances, we have seen many positive signs, which is encouraging. There is still room for improvement, though. I think keeping a clean sheet tonight means a great deal to us."
"As a team, we made a lot of right decisions, which is why we are confident about this new season. It truly gives me great encouragement."
