Atlanta Football Club Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio (Italian: Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio) is a football club located in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy. It currently competes in the Italian Serie A. Its main venue is the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d\'Italia, and its jersey is blue and black. This team was founded in 1907, officially competed in the Italian Professional League in 1929, and competed in Serie A for the first time in 1937, but was relegated immediately. For a long time, Atalanta has been wallowing in the secondary league. Apart from the Italian Cup, its best achievement is the Serie B championship. Atalanta has been in the middle of the pack since promotion in 2006, only to be relegated to Serie B in 2009 and return to the top flight the following year. Atalanta was founded in 1907 by a group of wealthy Swiss immigrants. It was originally called "Atalanta Bergamasca di Ginnastica e Sports Atletici "Atalanta" (Società Bergamasca di Ginnastica e Sports Atletici "Atalanta"), named after a goddess in Greek mythology. The new club was not recognized by the Italian Football Federation until 1914. In 1924, Atlanta merged with the Bergamasca di Ginnastica e Scherma in the same city to form the Atalanta and Bergamasca di Ginnastica e Scherma, which moved to its current location in 1928. Atalanta began participating in the Italian Football League in 1929. It was not promoted to Serie A for the first time until 1937, but was then relegated and returned to its original form. Atalanta made a comeback in Serie A in 1940 and remained in the top league until 1958. After just one season, they won the Serie B championship and returned to Serie A. In 1963, they defeated Turin 3-1 to win the Italian Cup for the first time. In 1969, Atalanta finished last and were relegated to Serie B.
