Feyenoord Rotterdam

Feyenoord, together with Ajax and Eindhoven, are known as the three giants of Dutch football. Although Feyenoord has won fewer league championships than the latter two since the 1980s and 1990s, it is undeniable that the only one that can compete with Ajax and Eindhoven in the Eredivisie is Feyenoord. Since the club was founded in 1908, they have won a total of 14 Eredivisie championships, 10 Dutch Cup championships and 2 UEFA Cups, and became the first Dutch team to win the European Champions Cup in 1970. The Feyenoord club was founded in 1908 by two young football players. Feyenoord was just the name of one of their neighbors. On July 19, 1908, they gathered in a bar in Rotterdam to establish the football club. At that time, they named it Wilhelmina - after the Queen of the Netherlands named a local church after herself. After this the club's name was changed twice more, and in 1912 they finally decided to change the club's name to Feyenoord. In the first year after the club was founded, they participated in the Dutch League, and 16 years later, in 1924, Feyenoord won the first Dutch League championship in the club's history. In the following time, Feyenoord successively won multiple league championships and Dutch Cup championships, but the most memorable one was on May 6, 1970, when they defeated Celtic of Scotland in Milan and won the European Champions Cup in one fell swoop, becoming the first Dutch team to dominate Europe. Witnessed by 25,000 Dutch fans, Feyenoord defeated the Scottish champions 2:1 at the San Siro with a goal in the 117th minute of overtime. The next day thousands of Dutch fans surrounded their hero and cheered all the way back to the Netherlands from Milan. This was the only time Feyenoord won the Champions League. In the last 20 years of the 20th century, Feyenoord successively won the league championship in the 1983/84 season, the 92/93 season and the 98/99 season, as well as 6 Dutch Cup championships. But the last four league championships have been divided between Ajax and PSV, and last season they only ranked third behind these two. Although Feyenoord bought some players before the start of the 2003/04 season, they sold even more players. Facing the ambitious Ajax and PSV, if Feyenoord does not strengthen their strength, it will be difficult for them to surpass these two traditional strong teams in the new season.
