When it comes to Dutch teams, people may first mention Ajax's name, but PSV is also a team that cannot be ignored. In recent years, the Eredivisie has been monopolized by the top three of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. However, unlike Ajax, which often dominates European competitions, PSV has focused more on its local league. This is also an important reason why the team's reputation is not as good as Ajax's. August 31, 1913 was the 100th anniversary of Dutch independence. It was against this background that the Eindhoven Club was officially established after a grand commemorative event. PSV Eindhoven Football Club is one of the 19 members of a club called Philips Sports Club (the abbreviation in Dutch is PSV), and the Philips Stadium built that year is still in use today. Since 1914, PSV has officially begun to participate in the Dutch Football League. After more than ten years of hard work, PSV finally won the first league championship in the club's history in 1929, and then they won the first Dutch Cup championship in 1950. Five years later, in 1955, PSV became the first Dutch team to successfully reach the European Cup finals. It is worth mentioning that in the 1956-57 season, Dylan, the greatest scorer in the history of the PSV club, scored 43 league goals, a brilliant record that remains to this day. When talking about shooters, you have to mention the names of Ronaldo, Romario and Ruud van Nistelrooy. These three famous forwards have all played for PSV. The Dutch, who pay attention to technology, have always favored Brazilian foreign players. In 1988, the lone wolf Romario came to Eindhoven. His arrival helped the team achieve the greatest glory in the history of the club. Romario's departure in 1993 did not have much impact on PSV because they introduced another talented star Ronaldo. Although the latter only stayed in the Netherlands for two years, the alien helped the team win the 95/96 Dutch Cup championship. Van Nistelrooy, who is currently in the limelight at Manchester United, also played for PSV for three seasons. In the mid-1970s, PSV ushered in the club's glorious era. At that time, they had many big-name players and won the league championships in 74/75, 75/76, and 77/78 and the Dutch Cup championships in 73/74 and 75/76. This glory came to a perfect end with their first European championship. On May 9, 1978, PSV defeated the French team Bastia 3:0 at home and won the UEFA Cup. After its glory days, PSV immediately underwent reorganization and major transformation, which paid off in the late 1980s. A team composed of famous stars such as Gullit, Romario and Koeman has brought PSV to another level of glory. In the seven seasons from the 1985/86 season to the 1991/92 season, PSV won 6 league championships and 3 Dutch Cup championships. In the 1987/88 season, PSV defeated Portugal's Benfica in the Cup Winners' Cup final with a penalty shootout after overtime. After winning the local league and cup double championship, PSV once again dominated the European arena and became the historic Triple Crown winner. After that, after several years of silence, Eindhoven made a comeback. They successively won the league championship in the 1996/97, 99/00 and 00/01 seasons. In the just-concluded 2002/03 season, Hiddink, who successfully led the South Korean team to the historic semi-finals in the World Cup, returned to the Netherlands and led PSV to defeat their old rival Ajax and regain the league title that had been lost for a year. Now Hiddink has turned his attention to the Champions League in the new season. The ambitious PSV is not willing to dominate only in the domestic league.
