Crystal Palace Football Club

Team Nickname: Crystal Palace Football Club was founded in 1905 at the top of Sydenham Hill at the Glass Palace, now the National Athletic Center. In 1918 they began playing in the National C-League, and in 1921 they won the championship and were promoted to B-Level. In 1925 they were relegated to C-Level after losing to Oldham in the last round of the league. In 1958, the National D-League was newly established, and the Crystal Palace team became one of the founding members. Before that, although they had won the runner-up of the C-League three times, they had not been able to advance to the B-League. In 1961, the team was promoted to the C-League, and three years later, it was further promoted to the B-League. In 1969, after defeating Fulham, they entered the A-League for the first time in history. However, in the following four seasons, the team's results were disappointing, and it fell back to C grade again. But in the meantime they almost became the first FA Cup finalist to reach Division C, losing 0-2 to Southampton in the semi-final after successive victories over Chelsea, Leeds United and Sunderland, before reaching Division B again in 1977 under the coaching of later England national team coach Venables and reaching Division A two seasons later.
