Villarreal Club de Futbol

Villarreal is a football club located in Villarreal, Castellon Province, Valencia Autonomous Region, eastern Spain. It was founded in 1932. After the club was established, it began to participate in the regional league. After that, the team was between the second and third leagues many times. Until 1998, it was able to participate in the play-offs with the fourth place in the league. As a result, Villarreal defeated Compostela with a total score of 1-1 on an away goal and was promoted to the first league for the first time in history. Unfortunately, the team only stayed for one season before returning to the second league. In the 2000-2001 season, Villarreal finished third in the Second Division and was once again promoted to the First Division, and achieved seventh place in the First Division. In just a few years, Villarreal has purchased many high-quality South American players and has become a powerful team in La Liga. From 2002 to 2004, it reached the UEFA Toto Cup finals for three consecutive years and won the championship in 2003 and 2004. In the 2004 season, Villarreal finished third behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. The following year, they defeated many European powerhouses in the Champions League and reached the semi-finals, but unfortunately they lost to England's Arsenal. In the 2007-08 season, Villarreal defeated Barcelona to finish second in La Liga and once again qualified for the Champions League. In the UEFA Champions League in the 2008-09 season, Villarreal and defending champion Manchester United were placed in Group E. In the end, Villarreal qualified as second place in the group and advanced to the top 16. In the 2011-12 season, Villarreal's results suddenly declined and they were always ranked at the bottom of the league. Unfortunately, something unfortunate finally happened. In the last round, the team lost to Atletico Madrid at home and unexpectedly dropped to the second division in the bottom three. Although the Submarines had a poor start after being relegated to La Liga, they eventually returned to La Liga in second place thanks to a winning streak in the middle and later stages of the league.
