The English Premier League consists of 20 clubs and operates on a double round-robin format (each team plays every other team twice, once at home and once away). In each match, 3 points are awarded for a win, 0 points for a loss, and 1 point for a draw, with final standings determined by total accumulated points at the end of the season. Teams with equal points are ranked by goal difference, followed by total goals scored. If teams contending for the league championship, European qualification, or relegation spots remain tied after applying these criteria, head-to-head records and away goals in head-to-head matches are considered; if still tied, a play-off match will be held on a neutral ground.

The top four teams qualify directly for the league phase/group stage of the following season's UEFA Champions League, and the fifth-placed team qualifies for the UEFA Europa League. (The FA Cup winners qualify for the UEFA Europa League; if the FA Cup winners have already qualified for European competitions, the berth is transferred to the highest-ranked team in the league that has not yet qualified. The EFL Cup winners qualify for the UEFA Conference League play-offs; if the EFL Cup winners have already qualified for European competitions, the berth is transferred to the highest-ranked team in the league that has not yet qualified.) If both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League winners are Premier League clubs and neither qualifies for the Champions League through their league position, the fourth-placed team will enter the Europa League instead. The bottom three teams at the end of the season are relegated to the EFL Championship.
