Tournament Rules

The Italian Football League Serie B consists of a total of 20 teams and adopts a double round-robin system (each team competes with other teams twice at home and away). The points calculation method for a single game is that the winner earns 3 points, the loser earns 0 points, and in a draw, both sides earns 1 point, and the ranking is based on the number of points. If the points are the same, the ranking will be determined by the match results.

Promotion and relegation quota

(1) The top two teams in the league standings will be promoted directly. If the third-placed team is at least 15 points ahead of the fourth-placed team, they will also be eligible for direct promotion. Otherwise, the last promotion spot will be determined through a play-off. Teams ranked third to eighth and whose points difference with the third-placed team is within 14 points can participate in the play-offs.

(2) The first round of the promotion play-offs will pit the eighth against the fifth in the league, and the sixth against the seventh. It will be a single-game system. If there is no winner within 90 minutes, the one with the highest ranking will advance. In the second round, the third will face the winner between the sixth and seventh, and the fourth will face the winner between the eighth and fifth. A two-leg home and away system will be adopted. There will be no away goal discount. If the total score of the two rounds is the same, the one with the higher ranking will advance. The promoted teams will play two rounds of home and away finals. If the total scores of the two rounds are the same, a 30-minute overtime will be played. If there is still a tie, the team with the higher ranking will be eligible for promotion.

(3) The bottom three teams in the standings will be relegated directly. If the point difference between the bottom four and fifth place reaches more than 4 points, the bottom four will be relegated directly. Otherwise, the two sides will engage in a relegation play-off. The relegation play-off will be two-legged, home and away. If the two sides tie in two rounds, the team ranked higher will be relegated.
