UEFA officially announced that starting from the first match of the Champions League group stage, the yellow card accumulation threshold for suspension will be raised from 3 to 4. Once a player triggers a suspension after 4 yellow cards, every subsequent two even-numbered yellow cards (i.e., the 6th, 8th, etc.) will result in an additional one-match ban. The yellow card count will be reset once after the play-offs (not involving the group stage) and again after the quarter-finals (not affecting the semi-finals). Players who accumulated 3 yellow cards multiple times last season, such as Rodri, Walker, Vinícius, and Rice, directly benefit from the new rule, as they are no longer at risk of suspension easily. Teams with a refined technical style benefit from fewer fouls, significantly expanding their margin for error; while teams that rely on physicality and strong defense must control their actions more strictly, or they will face a higher risk of suspension.
