Diomande Joins Real Madrid for Up to €140M, 19-Year-Old Prodigy Sets Club Transfer Record

Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivorian forward, was playing at the DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 2024 before transferring to La Liga side Leganés, where he initially featured for the reserve team. A few months later, he showcased remarkable potential and joined RB Leipzig in July 2025 for €20 million. In the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, he contributed 12 goals and 8 assists, earning the Best Young Player award and helping Leipzig secure a third-place league finish. At the World Cup this summer, he emerged as one of the tournament's brightest young stars, guiding Côte d'Ivoire to the Round of 32. Before Real Madrid made their move, Paris Saint-Germain had been heavily linked with him, and he also attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

Real Madrid officially announced that they have signed the highly talented young attacker from RB Leipzig. Citing sources close to the deal, foreign media reported that the fixed transfer fee is €125 million (approximately $144 million), with add-ons including €10 million in easily achievable performance bonuses and €5 million in more difficult additional clauses. If all add-ons are activated, the total transfer fee would reach €140 million, surpassing the costs of signing Bellingham in 2023 and Hazard in 2019, making it the most expensive signing in Real Madrid's history.

In fact, foreign media had reported last weekend that Real Madrid were very close to finalizing the deal, but sources noted that the two clubs engaged in repeated negotiations over contract details, delaying the final agreement. On Thursday morning local time, Diomande left Leipzig's pre-season training camp and flew directly to Spain for a routine medical examination, after which the transfer was officially confirmed.

Diomande is the latest big-money acquisition of Real Madrid's summer spending spree—prior to this, the club had already signed Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Konaté, Dumfries, and Espi among other established players. After two consecutive seasons without major trophies, Real Madrid aim to compete fiercely for the La Liga title under new head coach José Mourinho.

Diomande's agent, Campbell, told foreign media: "In our early conversations with Yang, he immediately made it clear that Real Madrid was his dream club. We never expected the opportunity to come so quickly, but once Real Madrid showed interest, his choice was obvious."
