A-League heavyweights make pre-season coaching change: former international Sterjovski and Macarthur FC part ways
With less than two months to go before the new season, Macarthur Bulls FC officially announced an early termination agreement with head coach Mile Sterjovski, and the club immediately initiated the process of selecting a new coach.
The 47-year-old former Australian international led the team to win the Australia Cup in 2023, took over from Dwight Yorke midway through the 2022/23 season, and subsequently became the longest-serving coach in the league.
Under Sterjovski, the team had impressive performances in Asian competitions, but the long-term travel took a toll on domestic league results, causing the team to miss the playoffs for two consecutive years.
His final match in charge was a penalty shootout loss in the Australia Cup round of 16 to semi-professional New South Wales side SD Raiders.
Macarthur FC will begin their seventh A-League campaign at home against Perth Glory on October 17 local time.
"Mile has poured his heart and soul into the club since its inception, leaving a lasting impact on the club's culture and identity," the club wrote in an official statement.
"He is committed to nurturing young talent and establishing a pathway from the academy to the first team, and these results will continue to benefit the club in the coming seasons.
Macarthur Bulls FC thanks Mile for his diligence, dedication, and commitment during his tenure, and wishes him all the best in the next chapter of his career."
