Shoulder Dislocation Forces Silvestri to Undergo Surgery, Ending Inter Miami Forward's 2026 Season Early

Inter Miami forward Matteo Silvestri has undergone surgery following a dislocated left shoulder, with the club officially confirming his 2026 season has come to an end.

The injury traces back to August 5 local time, when Silvestri suffered a left shoulder dislocation during the League Cup encounter against St. Louis City SC. Despite the forward attempting to return to action on September 5 against Atlanta United, he was forced off after just 10 minutes due to severe pain, as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

In the club's official announcement, details of the surgery were revealed: "Forward Matteo Silvestri has successfully undergone left shoulder surgery to repair the shoulder dislocation injury he sustained in the MLS match against Atlanta United. The player has entered the rehabilitation phase and is actively preparing for the upcoming season."

Looking back at the 2025 season, Silvestri was one of the key figures in Inter Miami's MLS Cup title run, contributing 2 goals and 3 assists in 6 league games. In the 2026 season, he scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in 14 MLS regular season appearances, but that performance was abruptly cut short by the injury.

Injuries have consistently clouded Inter Miami's 2026 campaign, with six players absent due to injury in a previous away match against Chicago Fire. Among them, Taddeo Allende underwent right knee arthroscopy (to alleviate symptoms) and is also out for the remainder of the season, having been seen at home matches on crutches following the surgery.

Additionally, in the September 9 match against the Fire, Santiago Morales, Sergio Reguilon, Mickael, and Gonzalo Lucian were also unable to play due to injuries. Inter Miami currently stands 2nd in the Eastern Conference with 44 points from 24 matches, and they will host Eastern leaders Nashville SC at home on Saturday in a bid for the Supporters' Shield honor.
