Leeds United Close to Major Signing: £40 Million Swoop for Manchester City Goalkeeper Trafford

According to sources from foreign media, Leeds United are getting closer to finalizing the transfer of Manchester City and England goalkeeper James Trafford. The two clubs have been actively negotiating recently and have basically reached a consensus on the framework of the deal. The 23-year-old international is expected to move to Elland Road for an initial transfer fee of £40 million. Reports also indicate that once Trafford leaves this summer, City will immediately push forward with finding a replacement goalkeeper.

Trafford has no shortage of suitors, with Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa all having previously monitored his situation. However, based on the current situation, Leeds United are more likely to win the race to complete the signing. After an unsuccessful season at the Etihad Stadium, Trafford wants more consistent playing time. Since returning to Manchester City from Burnley, he has only made four appearances in the Premier League.

Last season, Gianluigi Donnarumma occupied the starting goalkeeper position for most of the time at Manchester City, while Trafford's main stage was limited to domestic cup competitions. He started in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals, helping City end the season with a double.
